got a mind of his own
became in idea and less of a man
became an image and less of a lover
he flourished within her
his taste like her own
his eyes brighter blue
his arms around her
she thought and thought and thought
and eventually thought him away
but his ghost lingered and made her ache
made her scream
made her squeal in the night
his hands were bigger and stronger
his love was burning
he held her tighter
he held her up
he grew within her
a shadow of the man she first saw
idealized and scratched out of wood board
painted with egg tempera and waxy
smelling like the depths of a forest
eyes a brighter blue
arms stronger
loved longer.
