I'll always have a home in the backyard of your Canada,
full of the youngest histories
and antique stores of wooden treasures
and warm blankets to fight the cold with the fire
Rural and cheap, and brimming with strife
We're landscaping constantly,
leading our lives
but the flag on the wall,
sooty and worn
red and white
to remind us we're home
And there's too much forest
and too much sea
too many places
to loose or redeem
the soul you carry
forgotten sometimes
it runs away from you
to hide in the austrian pines
and cities to the south,
designed for regret
you pillage and perish all you have left
and get ground down
to dust to inhale
when your floundering there
you come back here
To the backyard of rural Ontario
the limits of the province
the rock stained beaches of Rosseau
You'll find your soul hiding somewhere
right next to me.
