Without

I wish my heart wouldn't
break when I look at you
A strand of hair on your face
Crept into my chest

A handwritten note, one I'll keep
Forever
I feel like I have stumbled across
The promised land

Oh how I love you,
cherished little force
I sang a song of another
But had no time to sing to you

And now we are barricaded
Locked away
In different homes, each a prison
Oh, the days of yore
When we could flit about
Kissing without regret
Humming without envy
Dancing without chains.
