I was trying to avoid you
In the empty school halls
The birds' sun burned
As I felt sickness claw at my insides
The love that couldn't be
The silence I must treasure
I was hiding this time
Thought I wouldn't see you
Thought the distaste would leak into my soul
Then I turned the corner
And you headed towards me
You arm outstretched
My name on your lips
I felt my hand touch yours,
Firm handshake
my mother always told me
You moved towards me
Tall and foreboding
A question, simple and unadulterated
I looked up
I felt the pull, the retreat, the recede
everything faded away
Except the memory
Of your hand in mine
And your intent eyes burning in my lips.
I wanted to go back to sleep
So terribly.
