Alexander the Great
He held the sword in his hand,
It was heavy and unforgiving
and he didn't want to fight.
Alexander missed his mother
Her soft hands on his cheek
His grandfather
And his magic cane that bloomed
right before his eyes
Oh Alexander longed
Longed for the lost days
The vines in the sunlight
The olive skin of a girl
Oh, he conquered and conquered
when all he desired was at home
in his bedroom, dewy and fresh
Golden streams on his pillow
Alexander the Great
Missed the streams and the birds
the quiet of skin
He hated the leather
His body was battered
He was just a boy
Playing a game of men
"Alexander"
Her voice on his lips
He held the sword, and blood dripped
down
down
down
He held the scarf in his hand,
soaked with the blood of an enemy
He did not cry, not a single tear
He just dreamed of a field of green
The oceanside
His lover,
within reach,
saying so very softly,
her lips bushing against his ear,
her breath warm on his neck
and with tears in her eyes she says
"Go Alexander, go and be great. Seize the day, let go, free yourself, find yourself, battle yourself, lose yourself, break yourself, heal yourself, and when you love yourself, come home to me, my dearest, and then I can love you too."
