Golden Bird

I had a dream
that you dreamt of me
Blinking lashes, and bitten fingernails
And you with sore shoulder blades

I leapt over a growing stream
A stream of consciousness, I do
not see
Though I wait for you eagerly

Winter is long, cold and fierce
The wind howls for a drunken lover
I plunge my hand into the water to pierce
The ice

"But I fall in. That water is the most glorious and cold water, and is the same colour as your mouth. I wonder why the water is red."

So now I wait, a golden bird
cradled in my hands
I made it for you,
To thank the feathers off your back

I have one question:
How big is your heart, and
have you learned to love, yet?
The golden bird wonders
For she is cold
And sopping wet.
