Jakob

Dearest Jakob
your hair cropped and
eyes sagging
how do you wake in the morning
and look at yourself
do you see the blood in
your veins
and the songs bursting
in your DNA?

My dear Jakob
let me pour you a bath
shave your chin
hold your aching breast
do you hurt because of him?

And let me tell you,
it is impossible
to meet the expectations
that he built without you in mind
There is no more and there is no less
just let me make you some
coffee in the sunrise

My love Jakob,
your shoulders hunched
and fingers bleeding
You always loved me
even when the morning was harsh
and the mirror unforgiving
Here, my dear,
a kiss for your brow
and a pen for your soul

don't dig your ditch
any deeper than it began
I'll be here all night
and there's always tomorrow to
plant the seed
A big baby birch for your
troubles
and a cup of tea for your tears
My dearest Jakob
I have always been here.
