Unremarkable

I am unremarkable.
Heavy, covered in soot, you would
not see me on the street.

I bask in the daylight
like a starved cat, purring and mewling
and curving beneath the rays

I am quickly forgotten.
Though, when gone, present an itching
in the back of your skull

so like a dream, I am
tactile and intense, chaotic and pervasive
sweet like honey soaked pear

I am unremarkable.
Like freshly cut grass, to be loved momentarily
and remembered fondly,
but I grow too fast to be recognized
past the time I am cut down

so like a dream, she said
trying to wrench open your lids in sleep
I was drugged and drooling

and now you have woken up
a nagging feeling of familiarity
walking in places you've been before

but when you awake, where do the dreams go?
