Freckled Feathers

I was taken,
simply,
by the feathers in your hair

unbeknown to the gracious you
there was a shadow beneath your
dimly lit eyes

and you are more than an action
you are almost a prayer
your gazes like sorrowful kisses

you'll find me curled
beneath your window pane
with a pot of tea and a pen

The only thing I believe in
is breath and flesh
we are my only religion

pure like sunflower I found God
in your quiet resolution
Bellowing through the rafters, I am elated

I'll place lavender on your pillow
the deepest sleep, feet entangled
the smell of my hair

I am the sweetest honey
when kissed in the morning
the sun beaming onto my freckled skin

and with each freckle I adore you.
