She softly whispered, almost in his ear but mostly into his hair.
She said, "I do not have a slender neck. My dainty hands may make up for it. I breathe unconsciously. Kind of like you do, but mainly like my mother. I wonder at my eyes sometimes in the mirror, I cherish them. Hundreds of people told me when I was growing up that I had beautiful eyes, and that I was capable of doing anything but like most things they said to me I always thought they were lying. Like I held a divine secret that I was, in fact, more like a dwarf than an elf, more like a leech than a butterfly, incapable and lacking. I never believed them."
He whispered back, looking at her dainty hands and wondering what her skin felt like.
"But you are capable of doing anything, no one is lying. Do you think I am lying when I say that I think you could do anything?"
She smiled knowingly.
"No, I don't think you are lying. Anyone can do anything. Not everyone can be anything. I don't want to do, I want to be. Thank you for the sentiment, though."
Her hair was cascades and her hands were like china, her whole frame seemed to shake beneath the sun. He wondered where this creature came from.
"So, more. I'm almost certain I come from the sea." Her eyes wandered towards the horizon, where the sea was not. "I drink coffee, but I love tea. I often feel like I'm a being for other beings, a mirror image of many I meet and they see in me what they see in themselves."
"Where does that leave you?" His eyes were on her knees.
"Where doesn't it leave me?" Her eyes were on his heart.
