On A Train

Vermillion bouquet of
redeeming qualities
I held you in the candlelight
Poised, unguided.

You are my first day of spring
exalted and cathartic
Like a visit from the Lord
Always more beautiful than expected

Tousle my hair like the wind
You enthral me
Every word, I hang on
Every soft gesture
as if you were submerged
Smooth and fluid

And I wonder how much of it
is the weather
If like the rising sun and presence of birds
You'll fade fast in the winter.
