Picked up

the birds chirped in the
early morning dew
down the road of barking dogs
you frequent, you wait
you watch for the day when
the sky may fall over you

and you find solace in life
in truth and in grace
when I close my eyes
I see your face
and sometimes I can't believe
in anyone but you

all of the imagery of the earth
you are like nothing tangible
a light, vivid and brilliant
something to recall

oh I felt you in the back of my throat
while I pushed out the note
the one that I needed to show you
there was a warble and a tremor
a tremble in my body
as I told you my truth through
a sustained vowel

"There is too much in my heart."
I sang, I said, I cried, I ambled
I manoeuvred through my days
The only direction I seem to know
is to your side

So tonight I am filled to the brim
with what, I am unsure
The only knowledge I have
is that I need to breathe to live.

Someone said to me that
we are going out to be brought back
that there is no end
how many times have we already met?
