simply.

i awoke this morning,
eyes drugged and my vision thick.
The light from my large screened window
sang through my drapes and down onto
my newly born mouth.

"it's been a long time"
I think to myself,
"perhaps I should start thinking clearly"
these words of flounce
sound great in my mind
but they border on dishonesty

i heard the call of a kingfisher
it sounded so miraculous
and the birds kept they're words
true as they have before
they have no need for hiding

and so it has come.
I brew some morning tea and grin
grin at the memory of your lightness
your unbearable lightness

you see my dear,
i can't remember your face
i can't remember your voice 'till i hear it
i don't remember your touch
just night and fog

but this tea helps me to recall
all the ways i love you
how you ring in every breath
and while my self-consciousness
and insecure belly-flurry
follow me daily, now
i still come back to you

and not to your body,
though i swear it is greatness
and not to your face,
because now you are faceless
the memory of you exists
not in your grace
or in how you taste

but in simply how i love you.

and at this new point
of utmost sincerity,
of the clarity i have always craved
i simply cannot begin to look fervently
anywhere but you
and yes this is dangerous, and perhaps i am silly
but frankly my dear, you fill me
not with your words and not with your home
but simply in the way i become with you

simply by the way my life is with you.
